UTEP bests West Alabama 67-46

EL PASO, Texas (AP) -- Vince Hunter scored 14 points, on 5-of-6 shooting, and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the University of Texas at El Paso to a 67-46 win over West Alabama Sunday.

The Miners (2-1) opened the game with a 12-3 run, capped by McKenzie Moore's jumper with just under 13 minutes left in the first half. UTEP would push it lead 12 with 7:09 remaining in the first, but back-to-back 3-pointers by Cordell Pope helped West Alabama trim its deficit to 28-20 at the break.

UTEP scored 10 unanswered points to start the second half and eventually pushed its 21 points on three separate occasions. West Alabama never got any closer than 13 again.

Moore finished with 12 points. Cedrick Lang chipped in with 11 and C.J. Cooper added 10 for the Miners.

Cordell Pope had 15 points and 7 rebounds for the Tigers.
