COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) USA Swimming's board of directors approved a list of recommendations from the Safe Sport Program Review Task Force, including the creation of an abuse victims' assistance fund.

USA Swimming announced the decision Saturday.

The nine-person task force was created to review the report, ''When the Athlete is a Child: An Assessment of USA Swimming's Safe Sport Program,'' compiled by Victor Vieth, executive director of the Gundersen National Child Protection Training Center. The report was the result of a self-commissioned independent review that USA Swimming conducted to examine its Safe Sport program.

USA Swimming started the Safe Sport Program in 2010 after numerous reports of coaches having inappropriate relationships with underage athletes.
