MALMO, Sweden (AP) The United States routed Russia 13-1 Friday to advance the gold-medal game against Canada at the women's world hockey championship.
Canada defeated Finland 3-0 in the other semifinal to set up Saturday's final. Finland and Russia will play for the bronze medal that day.
The U.S. and Canada have met in the championship game of all 16 world events. The Canadians won the first eight titles, but the Americans have taken five of the last seven, including four of the last five.
Brianna Decker led the U.S. with three goals. Also scoring were Monique Lamoreux, Jocelyne Lamoureux, Hilary Knight, Dana Trivigno, Alex Carpenter, Hannah Brandt, Haley Skarupa, Emily Pfalzer, Zoe Hickel and Megal Keller.
Goaltender Jessie Vetter faced just five shots over two periods before Alex Rigsby turned away three in the third. Captain Meghan Duggan and defender Kacey Bellamy were ill and did not play.
Russia's Iya Gavrilova opened the scoring. Yulia Leskina gave up four goals on 17 shots in the first period. She was replaced by Valeria Tarakanova, who allowed nine goals on 33 shots.
In the second semifinal, Canada was backed by one goal by captain Marie-Philip Poulin and two in the third period by Rebecca Johnston. Ann-Renee Desbiens stopped 19 shots for her second shutout of the tournament. Finland goalie Meeri Raisanen had 37 saves.
