Saunders pitched to the minimum 14 batters before leaving after seven innings. Michael Bourn singled with two outs in the fourth, but Miguel Montero threw him out attempting to steal to end the inning.

"I just try to up as many zeroes as I could to keep us in the game," Saunders said.

"We're banged up right now. Everybody can see that. It's just a matter of fighting through it. When runs are at a premium like they are right now, the pitching staff has to step up."
