UNLV AD Kunzer-Murphy to transition to new role in 2017
LAS VEGAS (AP) UNLV athletic director Tina Kunzer-Murphy has agreed to a six-month contract extension and will transition to a fundraising position within the UNLV Foundation next July 1.
Kunzer-Murphy's original three-year contract was set to expire on Dec. 31.
A former UNLV tennis and volleyball player, Kunzer-Murphy became interim AD on July 1, 2013, after Jim Livengood's sudden retirement. She became the first woman and alum to run the department.
Kunzer-Murphy previously worked for six months in the UNLV Alumni Association, helping spearhead a project to build a statue of former basketball coach Jerry Tarkanian.
She served as women's tennis coach and director of the cheerleading program in 1977 before moving into a management role after the school dropped tennis in the early 1980s.
