UFC Embedded, Episode 2 goes Hollywood
Being a professional athlete is about much more than showing up on event day. As UFC 173's Dan Henderson and Daniel Cormier prove in episode two of UFC Embedded, there are all sorts of things that take up your time right up until fight night.
For the 43-year-old Henderson, being a dad doesn't go on the backburner when he's wrapping up camp, as he tends to a sick daughter. For Cormier, it's something lighter, a festival paying homage to his Louisiana roots.
But those are just short diversions on the road to the octagon, as the two co-main eventers soon have to shift into promotional mode, flying to Los Angeles to do a radio tour together. It's pretty obvious there is a mutual shared respect among the pair, as both reveal they weren't originally too interested in fighting each other.
We wrap up with UFC president Dana White hitting Los Angeles for the Sports Spectacular in black tie. Yes, that's right, the man who won't even wear a tie to his own events donned a tux. But it was all for a good cause, as Sports Spectacular works to raise money for children battling diabetes and obesity, as well as the fight against hereditary disorders and birth defects.
White was one of several honorees, accepting a Visionary Award, and in the spirit of the charitable evening, donated $50,000 of his own money and $25,000 from the UFC to the cause.
