UC's Kilpatrick again earns AAC Player of the Week honors
CINCINNATI -- University of Cincinnati senior guard Sean Kilpatrick has been named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the second consecutive week the league announced on Monday.
Kilpatrick averaged 24.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 4.0 three-pointers in a 1-1 week for the Bearcats.
The native of Yonkers, N.Y., scored 26 points, including 17 in the second half, with 12 rebounds and six assists in a 63-58 win against then-No. 22 UConn on Feb. 6. According to ESPN research, Kilpatrick became only the third player in the last 15 years to produce that statistical line against a ranked team (along with Ohio State's Evan Turner [2009, 2010] and Georgetown's Michael Sweetney [2003]).
Kilpatrick scored a game-high 22 points with a trio of three-pointers and 9-of-11 shooting from the free-throw line in UC's 76-55 loss at SMU on Feb. 8.
Kilpatrick leads the American in scoring at 19.8 points per game and has been the Bearcats' top scorer in each of their last 11 games. He tied the school record for consecutive games played at 131 (Keith Gregor 131 from 1993-95) against SMU.
Over the last five games, Kilpatrick is averaging 24.6 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.6 assists with 18 three-pointers.
Kilpatrick was named the American's Player of the Week last week after averaging 23.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists in a pair of UC wins.
Kilpatrick scored a game-high 28 points with a trio of three-pointers and 11-of-11 shooting from the free-throw line in UC's 69-66 win at then-No. 12/7 Louisville on Jan. 30. He scored 12 of the Bearcats' last 14 points to secure the win.
Kilpatrick posted a game-high 18 points with a pair of three-pointers and 6-of-6 shooting from the foul line in Cincinnati's 50-45 home win over USF on Feb. 2. He accounted for all of the Bearcats' final eight points in the win.
Monday's recognition marks the ninth time this season Kilpatrick has been honored by the conference for his performance on the court. He has been named to the league's weekly honor roll seven times.
UC senior forward Justin Jackson became the nation's first player to earn conference player of the week accolades for three consecutive weeks when the American tabbed him as the league's best player Dec. 23, Dec. 30 and Jan. 6.
