UA's Lyons named Pac-12 Player of the Week
TUCSON, Ariz. -- Arizona point guard Mark Lyons was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week on Monday.
Lyons, a senior, led UA to a win over intrastate rival Arizona State on Saturday by totaling 24 points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals in the contest, shooting 53.3 percent (8 for 15) from the field and 100 percent (6 for 6) from the line.
He equaled season highs with both the 24 points and three steals and tallied 15 of those 24 points in the second half, including six in a decisive 15-5 run midway through the period as the Wildcats pulled away for a 71-54 win. It was Lyons’ fourth 20-point game this season.
For the season, Lyons is averaging 15.2 points, 1.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game to go along with a .437 field goal percentage.
This is the first time in his career that Lyons, a transfer from Xavier, has been honored with a conference player-of-the-week honor. It also marks the first time in 2012-13 that an Arizona player has been recognized by the league office.
