UA volleyball overpowered by No. 3 Oregon

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Alaina Bergsma and Liz Brenner combined for 25 kills to lead No. 3 Oregon (17-1, 8-1 Pac-12) to a 3-0 (14-25, 23-25, 18-25) victory over Arizona (11-9, 3-6 Pac-12) on Friday night.
 
Lauren Plum, who leads the country in assists, dished out a match-high 40 assists to go along with 10 digs and four kills for the Ducks. Oregon hit an efficient .337 for the match.
 
Madi Kingdon led the Wildcats on the offensive end with 13 kills. The Wildcats hit just .171 on the night but they did out-block the Ducks, 9-6. Lauren Fuller and Chanel Brown dished out 31 assists, while Candace Nicholson led the Arizona defense with a match-high 15 digs. Taylor Arizobal had a match-high five blocks to go along with five kills and five digs.  
 
Oregon jumped out to a 16-2 run to open the match, and that was all it needed. Arizona tried to climb back into it, but the Cats were only able to cut the lead to fewer than nine. Oregon hit .267 in the frame, while Arizona was held to a .000 hitting efficiency.
 
The second set was much closer, but Oregon opened with a 16-13 advantage. The Wildcats won four of the next five points to tie the score 17-17. After some back and forth play, Oregon extended its lead and earned set point at 24-21. The Cats won the next two points to pull within one, but the Ducks got a kill by Ariana Williams to clinch the set 25-23.
 
Oregon jumped out to a 20-11 lead in the third set, and the Wildcats were unable to put a significant run together to get back into it. The Ducks went on to win the set 25-18. Oregon hit a very strong .429 in the set.
