U-M receives verbal commitment from PG
Michigan hasn't let go of Trey Burke quite yet, but they've found a possible replacement just in case.
The Wolverines got a verbal commitment Friday from point guard Spike Albrecht. Albrecht started his high-school career at Crown Point (Ind.) High School before transferring to Northfield (Mass.) Mount Herman HS as a senior.
With Burke's future up in the air, John Beilein traveled to see Albrecht last week before hosting him for a visit this week. Albrecht's coach at Crown Point, Clint Swan, tweeted Friday evening that he had agreed to attend Michigan. He can't sign an official letter of intent until next week.
Albrecht isn't nearly as highly regarded as fellow recruits Mitch McGary and Glenn Robinson III, but he has played AAU ball with McGary for several years. Mount Herman also handed McGary's Brewster Academy its only loss last season, a game that saw Albrecht score 12 points in an 87-83 overtime win.
If Burke stays in the NBA draft, Albrecht would join little-used Eso Akunne as the only point guards on Michigan's roster.
