Twins to open 2013 at home against Tigers
MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Twins released their preliminary 2013 regular-season schedule on Wednesday, which includes the Twins opening the season at Target Field for the first time in the park’s four-year history.
Minnesota will begin the 2013 season by hosting the Detroit Tigers on April 1, 3 and 4. As they have in the past, the Twins built in an off day in case of inclement weather in early April.
Among the highlights of the schedule is increased interleague play, which begins for all teams in 2013 due to the Houston Astros moving from the National League to the American League and evening the leagues at 15 teams each. The Twins will travel to the Miami Marlins’ new ballpark, which opened this year, for a two-game series on June 25-26. Minnesota will host several National League teams at Target Field, including the New York Mets from April 12-14, the Marlins on April 22-23, the Milwaukee Brewers on May 29-30, the Philadelphia Phillies from June 11-13 and the Houston Astros from Aug. 2-4.
Minnesota will play host to the New York Yankees from July 1-4 and will also host the Boston Red Sox for three games in mid-May.
The Twins will close the season with seven games against AL Central foes. They’ll first host the Tigers from Sept. 23-25 and finish out with a four-game series against Cleveland from Sept. 26-29.
