Twins release 2016 season schedule, will open season on road

The Twins released their 2016 schedule on Tuesday and Minnesota will once again open the season on the road.

Opening Day is April 4 and Minnesota will begin the new campaign with three-game series at Baltimore and Kansas City before returning to Target Field for the home opener April 11 against the Chicago White Sox.

The Twins will play interleague games at home against Miami (June 7-9) and Philadelphia (June 21-23) and on the road at Washington (April 22-24) and Atlanta (Aug. 16-18). As usual, Minnesota will also play Milwaukee, with two games at Target Field from April 18-19 and then two at Miller Park on April 20-21.

Minnesota will also end the season on the road, closing with three games at Kansas City and Chicago. The season finale against the White Sox is Oct. 2.

The longest homestand in 2016 for Minnesota is seven games: May 19-25 vs. Toronto and Kansas City, Aug. 8-14 vs. Houston and Kansas City and Sept. 1-7 vs. Chicago and, yes, Kansas City. Minnesota also has a trio of seven-game road trips: July 18-24 at Detroit and Boston, Aug. 1-7 at Cleveland and Tampa Bay and Sept. 12-18 at Detroit and the New York Mets.
