The Clete Thomas experiment in Minnesota appears to be over.

The Twins announced Friday that the outfielder was designated for assignment. Minnesota claimed Thomas off waivers from the Detroit Tigers on April 14. He hit a home run in his second at-bat with the Twins, but was just 4-for-28 with 16 strikeouts in 12 games in Minnesota.

Minnesota also announced that it claimed outfielder Erik Komatsu off waivers from the St. Louis Cardinals. He will take Thomas' spot on the 25-man roster. Komatsu, 24, made his major league debut with St. Louis earlier this season. He appeared in 15 games and was 4-for-19 with two walks, two strikeouts and three runs scored. Komatsu played all three outfield positions with the Cardinals this season.

An eighth-round draft pick of the Milwaukee Brewers in 2008, Komatsu batted a combined .277/.367/.382 last season with Double-A Huntsville and Double-A Harrisburg. He hit seven home runs and added 48 RBI in 124 games with the two teams. The Cardinals drafted Komatsu from the Washington Nationals in the Rule 5 Draft this past December.

The Twins also announced Friday that infielder Sean Burroughs, who was designated for release or assignment on Tuesday, has cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Rochester. In 10 games with the Twins this season, the 31-year-old Burroughs was 2-for-17 with one RBI and three strikeouts.
