Twins call up right-handed pitcher Wimmers

The Minnesota Twins selected the contract of Rochester Red Wings pitcher Alex Wimmers on Friday, adding the 27-year-old right-hander ahead of a game against the Toronto Blue Jays.

A first-round pick in the 2010 First-Year Player Draft, Wimmers was originally drafted by the Twins out of Ohio State and has spent the past several years in the team's minor-league system.

Wimmers has a 4.04 ERA and 11 saves through 44 games split between Double-A Chattanooga and Triple-A Rochester this season.
