MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota Twins on Tuesday acquired
left-handed pitcher Kris Johnson from Pittsburgh. In exchange, the Twins sent
pitcher Duke Welker -- originally acquired by the Pirates in October -- back to
Pittsburgh.
The 29-year-old Johnson made his major league debut last
year with the Pirates and appeared in four games, including one start. He was
0-2 with a 6.10 ERA in 10 ⅓ innings. Johnson had better success in the minors
in 2013, going 10-4 with a 2.39 ERA in 26 games with Triple-A Indianapolis.
