Twelve sectional qualifiers set for U.S. Open

The USGA has announced its 10 U.S. and two international sectional qualifying sites for the 2015 U.S. Open at Chambers Bay in University Place, Wash.

International sites will conduct qualifying on May 25. U.S. sites will play June 8.

Four cities will stage their qualifiers at two sites: Big Canyon Country Club and Newport Beach CC in Newport Beach, Calif.; Old Oaks CC and Century CC in Purchase, N.Y.; Germantown CC and Ridgeway CC in Memphis, Tenn.; Brookside G&CC and Scioto CC in Columbus, Ohio. Scioto, the boyhood home course of Jack Nicklaus, will be the site of the 2016 U.S. Senior Open.

Also of note: Woodmont CC in Rockville, Md., will stage a sectional qualifier for the 28th time in 29 years.

Players who have come out of sectional qualifiers to win the U.S. Open form an exclusive group: Ken Venturi (1964), Orville Moody (1969), Jerry Pate (1976), Steve Jones (1996), Michael Campbell (2005) and Lucas Glover (2009). Venturi and Moody are the only players to win after advancing through local and sectional qualifying.

The 12 sectional sites for the 2015 U.S. Open, which will be played June 18-21 at Chambers Bay in University Place, Wash.:

-- Hawks Ridge Golf Club, Ball Ground, Ga.
-- Woodmont Country Club (North), Rockville, Md.
-- Old Oaks Country Club and Century Country Club, Purchase, N.Y.
-- Brookside Golf and Country Club and Lakes Golf and Country Club, Columbus, Ohio
-- Springfield Country Club, Springfield, Ohio
-- Germantown Country Club and Ridgeway Country Club, Memphis, Tenn.
-- Northwood Club, Dallas
-- Tumble Creek Club, Cle Elum, Wash.
