Trout wants to 'turn the page' on Angels' loss to Royals
Mike Trout's postseason debut didn't turn out as Hollywood producers would've planned.
Trout went 0 for 4 with one walk and lost a ball in the lights in center field as the Angels lost Game 1 of the ALDS to Kansas City, 3-2 in the 11th inning.
Trout said he was anxious but not nervous for his first playoff game.
"After the first at-bat I felt fine,'" Trout said. "It's just a baseball game. We'll try to come out (Friday) and get a W."
Trout, who soon might win the AL MVP honors, had been waiting for this moment his entire life.
"It's tough. The emotions are high," Trout said. "You want to do so much. That's when you get into trouble. You just have to go back out there (Friday)."
Trout flied out to left field in the first inning, popped out to second in the fourth, popped out to right field in the sixth and drew a walk after battling from down 0 and 2 against Wade Davis in the eighth inning. He grounded into a fielder's choice in the 10th inning.
"We had our opportunities," Trout said. "We just came up short."
Angels must get offense back on track to get back in ALDS
The Angels left eight men on base and were 0 for 7 with runners in scoring position.
This sure beats white-tailed deer hunting in the woods of New Jersey, which is what Trout has done the last three Octobers that the Angels weren't in the postseason.
Still, he was feeling good.
"I felt great. (During the) couple at-bats after I got the first one out of the way, I felt better," Trout said. "I just missed some pitches. I had a good at-bat against Davis."
The Angels don't have to wait long to leave this game behind since Game 2 is Friday.
"Just got to come out (Friday) and turn the page," Trout said. "It was a tough one. You always want to win."
In the fifth inning, Royals outfielder Alex Gordon got on base with a leadoff double. Trout lost the ball in the lights and Gordon scored in the inning to give the Royals a one-run lead. The Angels would tie it in the bottom of the inning on David Freese's solo home run.
"I had a bead on it," Trout said. "I thought I could catch it. I just didn't see it."
Trout has made some jaw-dropping catches this season, but the Royals outfielders -- Lorenzo Cain and Nori Aoki -- had the highlight-reel grabs Thursday. Aoki had two spectacular, circus catches and Cain had one.
