If you think it is tough losing a teammate in a trade to a team nearly 3,000 miles away, just imagine what it's like when the teammate is also your spouse.
But that's exactly what happened in the National Women's Soccer League on Saturday when the Western New York Flash and Portland Thorns pulled off a deal a week before the start of the regular season, the Democrat and Chronicle in Rochester, N.Y., reported.
The Flash traded defender Sarah Huffman and the rights to another player, believed to be Veronica Boquete, in exchange for Portland defender Kat Williamson and midfielder Courtney Wetzel. Williamson was Portland's first-round pick in the 2013 NWSL draft.
Huffman was a starter a year ago on the Flash team featuring star striker Abby Wambach, the world's all-time leader in international match goals. Huffman, 30, married Wambach in October but decided she wanted to return to Oregon, where she and Wambach built a home last year, the paper reported.
