Tracking Winston: Mixed results at plate, on mound
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- The week ended with more wins (three) than losses (two). But it was still a disappointing finish for the Florida State baseball team.
After taking a pair of midweek games against Stetson, the No. 4 Seminoles dropped two of three at home to No. 1 Virginia.
Jameis Winston had a hit-and-miss week. The Heisman Trophy winner had a double and a walk in Wednesday's 13-3 win over Stetson, scoring runs both times he reached base. In Tuesday's 4-0 victory, Winston pitched a scoreless ninth inning, striking out three batters (although one reached on a passed ball).
But Winston went 0 for 5 in the weekend series against the Cavaliers. On the mound, Winston gave up an earned run in the 10th inning of Friday's 5-3 loss (Winston inherited Gage Smith's runner, so Smith took the loss).
ON THE MOUND
Winston is 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA. He has 25 strikeouts in 24 innings.
AT THE PLATE
Winston's average rose slightly to .139, while his on-base percentage is now .311. He has five hits and six runs scored in 36 at-bats.
IN THE FIELD
Winston does not have an error in the outfield this season.
NEXT UP
There are no midweek games, so Florida State has a few days off before playing host to Minnesota on Friday for a three-game series.
