TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Was that the last we've seen of Jameis Winston in a college baseball uniform? It's very possible.
Winston pitched 2.2 scoreless innings of Saturday's 6-5 loss to Alabama, as Florida State was eliminated from the NCAA postseason. Coupled with the Seminoles' 7-0 loss to Georgia Southern on Friday, Florida State went 0-2 in regional play for the first time since 1984.
He did not give up a hit on Saturday, striking out two batters and walking one. In eight May relief appearances, a total of 9.1 innings, Winston did not allow an earned run.
It could be the last time Winston plays baseball for the Seminoles because he is eligible for the 2015 NFL Draft. The Heisman Trophy winner won't have to make a decision on leaving for the NFL until January.
AT THE PLATE
Winston grounded out as a pinch hitter in Friday's game. He finished the season hitting .128 (5 for 39) with two doubles, four RBI and six runs.
ON THE MOUND
Winston's ERA fell to a team-low 1.08. He finished the season 1-0 with 31 strikeouts in 33.1 innings.
UP NEXT
Winston can now focus on football. He will throw to receivers and help organize voluntary 7-on-7 games throughout the summer. Florida State football practice will resume in the first week of August and the Seminoles open with Oklahoma State at Arlington, Texas, on Aug. 30.
