In a surprise announcement on Twitter, five-star center Diamond Stone announced his commitment to the University of Maryland.

Stone took to Twitter early Friday evening to declare he would commit to a school at 7:30 p.m. CT. The consensus top-10 recruit picked the Terrapins over Wisconsin, Oklahoma State and Connecticut.

During his recently completed senior season at Whitefish Bay (Wis.) Dominican High School, Stone averaged 24.4 points, 11.4 rebounds, 2.8 blocks, and shot 67 percent from the floor.

Stone scored a game-high 23 points in the WIAA Division 4 state championship game last Saturday, leading Dominican to its fourth consecutive state championship.

The 6-foot-10 center was ranked as the No. 4 recruit in the class of 2015 by Scout.com, No. 5 overall by 247 Sports, No. 6 overall by Rivals.com and No. 7 overall by ESPN.

Stone and Marquette signee Henry Ellenson are just the sixth and seventh McDonald's All-Americans from Wisconsin, joining Kevon Looney (2014), Brian Butch (2003), Sam Okey (1995), Calvin Rayford (1991) and Joe Wolf (1983).

Stone won gold medals with United States Basketball at the U16 FIBA Americas Championship in 2013 and at the U17 FIBA World Championships in 2014.
