MILWAUKEE -- Marquette junior guard Todd Mayo underwent left knee surgery Wednesday morning to address an injury to the meniscus, the school announced.
The surgery was performed by Marquette basketball's orthopedic surgeon Ted Gertel at Aurora Sinai Medical Center in Milwaukee. Marquette expects Mayo to recover in time for the 2013-14 regular season.
Mayo, who was ruled academically ineligible Nov. 5 and reinstated on Dec. 20, averaged 5.3 points and 1.2 rebounds while shooting just 35.6 percent from the field in 23 games last season.
The younger brother of Milwaukee Bucks guard O.J. Mayo, the 6-foot-3 guard is expected to take on a bigger role as a junior with Vander Blue leaving school early.
