NEW YORK -- Tennessee Titans backup quarterback Chris Simms is just saying no to a plea deal after being accused of driving while high on marijuana.
Simms rejected prosecutors' offer Friday to let him plead guilty to driving while impaired. It's a traffic violation, not a crime. His punishment would have included a $500 fine, five days of community service and a 90-day drivers' license suspension.
After Simms turned down the offer, a judge set a March 1 trial date. The charges include a misdemeanor that could send the 30-year-old Simms to jail for a year if he's convicted.
Simms was pulled over July 1. He denies a police claim that he admitted smoking marijuana.
He's a son of former New York Giants quarterback Phil Simms.
