Tire Pros Team of the Week: Salpointe Catholic

The Salpointe Catholic Lancers are the Tire Pros High School Team of the
Week
for the weekend of Oct. 25-27 after their 30-14 victory over Ironwood Ridge in a Division II showdown in Tucson.

The Lancers piled up 303 rushing yards to knockoff the previously unbeaten Nighthawks, led by Johnny Pena's 187 yards and three touchdowns on 37 carries. The victory earned  Salpointe the No. 1 seed for the Division II playoffs and also moved them to the top of Varsity Xtra rankings. Ironwood Ridge fell one spot to No. 2 in the Varsity Xtra rankings and is seeded third in the state playoffs.

Other
teams receiving consideration were Tempe Prep, for its 21-20 upset of top-ranked Division V power Northwest Christian; Queen Creek, for its 49-6 win over previously unbeaten Williams Field; Chaparral, 38-20 winners of Scottsdale rival Saguaro; Desert Vista, for its 23-6 victory over Chandler; and Marcos de Niza, which rolled to a 45-27 win over previously unbeaten Cesar Chavez.
