Tire Pros Team of the Week: Ironwood Ridge
The Ironwood Ridge Nighthawks are the Tire Pros High School Team of the Week for the weekend of Sept. 20-22 after posting a 35-27 upset victory over previously unbeaten Marcos de Niza on Friday night.
The Nighthawks (5-0) rolled up 378 rushing yards, led by quarterback Tyler Williams' 174 and Anthony Braunreiter's 136. Williams and Braunreiter each scored two touchdowns. Scott Simmons blocked two punts, for Ironwood Ridge and Austin Goddard blocked an extra point.
Ironwood Ridge moved up to No. 2 in this week's Varsity Xtra Division II rankings, setting up a huge game this Friday against No. 1 Centennial in Oro Valley.
Other teams receiving consideration were Saguaro, Mountain Pointe, Liberty, Pinnacle, Tempe and Marana Mountain View.
