Tire Pros Team of the Week: Brophy
Brophy got a stellar defensive effort to pull off a 13-6 victory over Desert Mountain on Friday night, pushing the Broncos to No. 8 in this week's Varsity Xtra Division high school rankings.
The victory earned the Broncos the Tire Pros High School Team of the Week Award in polling conducted by FOXSportsArizona.com.
Desert Mountain features a high-powered passing attack led by Kyle Allen, a Texas A&M commit who is ranked as the nation's top high school quarterback, and wide receiver Mark Andrews, being recruited by most of the nation's top college programs. But Brophy kept the Wolves off the scoreboard until the game's final seconds, with the help of a blocked punt, two blocked field goals and an interception in the end zone by Brian Woodward.
“Our defense played incredible tonight,” Brophy coach Scooter Molander told the East Valley Tribune. “They got some plays, but yet we never broke. We brought a punch to our tackling and that helped, I do believe, to some of their dropped passes."
Other teams receiving consideration were Chandler High, Ironwood Ridge, Bradshaw Mountain, Queen Creek, Mesquite, Basha, Prescott, Pinnacle and Marcos de Niza.
