Tips for becoming a Kings Ice Crew member
Auditions are just around the corner and I'm sure all you ice crew hopefuls are just dying to know what it takes to make the team.
With the help ofJake, we thought we would try and deliver what we felt were some strong guidelines that us ice crew abide by.
Of course we have one of the best part-time jobs ever, working for the best team in the NHL - literally, we're Stanley Cup champs. But, it's still a job. There are rules, lots of fine print and a bar raised so high, only few can reach it.
You've got to be the whole package. What are some of the components of that package you ask? Being energetic! When have you ever seen a dull or bored looking crew member? Hopefully never. We have 18,000 fans to pump up every home game and hundreds more in the community that we interact with all season.
You've got to be fit. You've seen the uniforms and swim suit calendars. We take pride our personal image and find that being in shape not only makes you feel good but also makes the job easier! Shoveling snow with guns of steel feels like a breeze.
Having the right attitude is something I cannot stress enough. Don't sweat the small stuff that we can teach you (ex. Kings history, rules of the game, how to skate, etc.). As long as you have an open mind and willingness to learn, the judges will see your potential and maybe even give you a shot.
There's lots more tips in our super awesome video but lastly I wanted to inform you all of a rule you'll run into on any NHL ice crew: absolutely no fraternization with the team or staff. No we do not get to date the players, nor do we even try, and if you think this is your gateway to propose to Drew Doughty, you're wrong. Same goes for the guys. If you think you'll be partying it up on the weekends with the team, think again.
Feel free to reach out to me with any questions you might have. I'm totally willing to do anything I can to help ice crew hopefuls and makes sure they have a wonderful audition experience.
