Former long-serving New Zealand coach Gordon Tietjens has taken charge of Samoa's sevens side.
Meanwhile, the man he replaced, Damian McGrath, was appointed as the Canada sevens coach.
The 60-year-old Tietjens retired from the New Zealand role after the Rio de Janeiro Olympics. Tietjens coached New Zealand for 22 years, winning 12 world sevens series, two World Cup Sevens, and four Commonwealth Games.
New Zealand's poor performance at Rio, where it failed to win a medal, hastened his decision to quit.
Kenya scheduled a news conference on Wednesday at which it was expected to announce Tietjens' appointment, but the conference was canceled shortly before it was due to begin.
McGrath was sacked by Samoa in September, despite an independent review which said he exceeded his contract stipulations in improving the team's international standing, and recommended he continue as coach. McGrath coached Samoa in May to the Paris Sevens title, its first world series triumph in three years.
The next world series opens on Dec. 2 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
