Three Takeaways from the Blue Jackets loss to Edmonton
One: A teaspoon of sugar might help the medicine go down, but there's no amount of sweetener that will take the horrid taste of that performance out of your mouth. This was the train wreck that you just couldn't take your eyes away from. After a solid game against Ottawa two days ago, somehow they managed to forget that there was a game they had to play against a team that had lost 6 games straight in their own barn. The regression of Columbus in this rout was no less than stunning.
Two: The worst nightmare for both fans and the coach is when a team gives up. The Blue Jackets definitely gave up in the third period. "As a coach you watch certain things", said head coach Todd Richards, "and certain players, how're they're going to respond to adversity or tough situations. We had guys that just wanted to get the game over with, which I'm really disappointed in." Reasonably sure he used harsher words in the dressing room with the guys.
Three: Adding injury to insult, forward Brandon Dubinsky left the game late in the second period with a bruised foot. When asked about the injury post-game, Richards said "I haven't had a chance to talk to Mike Vogt (Head Athletic Trainer) yet. Nothing's broken. Obviously, it's a foot but we'll have to wait and see tomorrow." Losing one of the most vocal guys in the room for a period of time would be a blow to this team.
