Three takeaways from the Blue Jackets 5-2 win over the Flyers

One: They took advantage of a hesitant Flyers defense with an aggressive forecheck. They were pinching-in and winning board battles with relative ease. Philadelphia seemed a bit out of sorts and the Blue Jackets took advantage of that by scoring twice in the first twenty minutes.

Two: Things evened out in the middle frame with the Flyers showing a bit more jump in their step late in the period. Two quick goals late seemed to deflate any coherent energy that Blue Jackets had built up from the first period. Their legs were not moving as well as they should have been.

Three: While the Blue Jackets would step up their play in the final stanza, it was Curtis McElhinney in net that gave them a chance to win this game. He stopped 42 of 44 shots on goal. Once again, they never gave up when the Flyers tied the game and found a way to win. Columbus wins the season series 4-1-0 against Philadelphia.
