Three Takeaways from the Blue Jackets 4-2 loss to the Jets

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 6:08 p.m. ET

One: The Blue Jackets had a "what the heck" moment just nine seconds into the game, as the Winnipeg Jets scored off the opening faceoff. They were tentative throughout two-thirds of the game, either not taking a shot or being indecisive with the puck. It didn't help that Hutchinson, the Winnipeg goalie, was pretty spot-on throughout the game.

Two: Mental lapses continue to hurt the team, which manifested in the latter stages of the second period. The Jets scored two goals within :31 seconds of each other, which proved too much for Columbus to recover from. Whether it's over-thinking the game or gripping their sticks too tight, it's time to just go out and play. Don't think about playing, just go play.

Three: Two bright spots on the night were the Blue Jackets goals. Defenseman Jordan Leopold scored his first goal (PP) in Union Blue after some nifty passing between him, Artem Anisimov and David Savard. And forward Ryan Johansen had a come from behind the net, backhand shot that got past the Jets goalie.
