Why, it seems like only yesterday that Cowboys fans were contemplating their team playing in the Super Bowl at Cowboys Stadium.
But then came a 1-7 start, a season-ending injury to quarterback Tony Romo and the firing of coach Wade Phillips. The Cowboys are left to celebrate the simple accomplishment of ending their season today in Philadelphia.
Win or lose against the Eagles, this is one of the most disappointing seasons in franchise history. The Cowboys had high expectations after going 11-5 in 2009. They beat Philadelphia in the regular-season finale and then in the NFC wild-card round.
But this matchup between NFC East rivals is so epic that Eagles coach Andy Reid will sit some of his key starters. No sense wasting Michael Vick or DeSean Jackson on the 5-10 Cowboys. The Eagles have their sights on a February trip to Cowboys Stadium.
The Cowboys have this carrot: They can become the second Dallas team in the last 11 years to close the regular season with a victory
