The Soundtrack to UFC 188: Velasquez vs. Werdum - the walkout songs

BY Damon Martin • June 14, 2015

Whenever the UFC travels abroad, the local flavor almost always shows through when it comes to the fighters walking to the Octagon and the show in Mexico City on Saturday night was no exception.

UFC 188: Velasquez vs. Werdum featured a huge list of different style tracks, many with Mexican backgrounds, to play to the local crowd or for fighters just going home again and celebrating with their native people.

Cain Velasquez was definitely the biggest Mexican superstar performing on the card on Saturday and he actually went with two different anthems for his walkout track.

Velasquez started his trot to the Octagon with "Caiga Quien Caiga" by Los Inquietos del Norte before switching over too his traditional walkout tune, "Los Mandados" by Vincente Fernandez.

As for Velasquez's opponent and now UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum, he decided to go with a heart-pumping anthem from the film 'Last of the Mohicans' called 'Promentory'.  The song has actually become a go-to favorite for several fighters in the UFC, but after his title fight win this one might belong to Werdum now.

Eddie Alvarez stuck to his Philadelphia roots with his walkout song as he chose 'Eye of the Tiger' by Survivor, which is best known from the soundtrack to "Rocky III".  Sure, it's a little cliche and slightly cheesy, but Alvarez is from Philly so he gets a pass.

Gilbert Melendez opted to go with some Santana for his walk to the Octagon as he chose the classic song 'Oye Como Va'.

Kelvin Gastelum also paid tribute to the Mexican fans with his walkout song "Sangre Caliente" by Vincente Fernandez.

The award for most interesting choice for the walkouts goes to former "Ultimate Fighter" competitor Angela Hill with her use of the song "Go Into the Water" by Dethklok from the Adult Swim show 'Metalocalypse'.
