Florida Gulf Coast has taken the sporting world by storm.
First they advanced to the NCAA tournament by winning the Atlantic Sun Conference tournament in just their second season of eligiblity.
That put a bit of a spotlight on the program, and then it was unearthed that head coach Andy Edfield is married to former model Amanda Marcum, who has appeared on the covers of Elle, Maxim and Vogue and in ads for Victoria's Secret, Liz Claiborne and Armani, among others.
But most people figured, FGCU's claim to fame would end there. Few people thought they'd get by 2nd-seed Georgetown in their NCAA tourney opener. But they didn't just get by the Hoyas, they did it with style and a viral identity was born: Dunk City.
That inspired a pair of FGCU students — Malike Adigun and Amber Angelero — to produce a music video for the soaring Eagles.
Let it be known that a sequel is in the works after FGCU took down San Diego State in the Round of 32 to become the first 15-seed ever to advance to the Sweet 16.
Even the city of Fort Myers has gotten in on the act, adding #DUNKCITY FLORIDA to the masthead on its web site.
And lest you think all this dunking is a new phenomenon for the team, check out this video posted back in August showing FGCU players Bernard Thomposn, Chase Fieler, Jamail Jones and Eric McKnight participating in a dunk contest on campus.
