The best and worst of the Big 12: Week 7

Time to hand out my Week 7 hardware:

Best offensive performance: Bryce Petty, QB, Baylor. Petty's completion percentage (.509) was pedestrian, but he played his best football after tossing a pick-six that put the Bears behind by 21 with 11:38 to play. He completed six-of-nine passes for 123 yards and two touchdowns over the game's remainder. He rallied the Bears for three touchdown drives, which all lasted fewer than 83 seconds and took five plays or less. He finished with 510 yards and six touchdowns with two picks on 28-of-55 passing and earned Walter Camp National Offensive Player of the Week honors.

Best team performance: Baylor. It wasn't always pretty, but last I checked, Baylor was the only team in the Big 12 to log a win over a top 10 team on Saturday. The Bears' insane, 61-58 comeback win gave their resume a much-needed quality win and helped vault them into a sure-fire playoff selection if the season ended today.

Worst team performance: Oklahoma State. Tyreek Hill rescued the Cowboys after KU's ill-advised decision to kick his way after tying the game in the fourth quarter. OSU managed just 275 yards of offense (KU had 379) and the Cowboys didn't score an offensive touchdown in the second half. Not good, guys.

Best play: Josh Lambert, K, West Virginia. The Garland, Texas native boomed a 55-yard field goal to beat Texas Tech and got mobbed by his teammates. Coach Dana Holgorsen's face after the kick was priceless.

Best tweet: Lambert. After Lambert's game-winning kick against Maryland, Holgorsen joked that he hadn't talked to Lambert since he came on campus. Saturday, Lambert chimed in with this pitch-perfect post.

Second-best play: Tyreek Hill, Oklahoma State. Hill's kickoff return was the ultimate bailout that turned a possible nightmare upset into a forgettable close-call on a day full of better games across the Big 12.

Third-best play: Chris Callahan, K, Baylor. Callahan is only this low because his game-winning kick came from 28 yards, but any game-winning kick is a big one, especially kicks that inspire field stormings. Callahan's day was good to see. He was just 1-6 before Saturday, when he made all four of his attempts.

Worst monogram job: Texas Tech equipment staff. Devin Lauderdale caught two passes for 110 yards and two touchdowns in the first quarter, but it mostly just drew attention to the back of his jersey, which read "Lauderale." Considering his big day, though, maybe he should keep omitting the "d" in his last name.

Craziest stat: Oklahoma had one first down in the first half against Texas, but scored 17 points. Alex Ross' kickoff return for a touchdown and Sanchez's interception return provided the statistical oddity.

Best quote: Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops, on whether he stops to relish moments more now than he did a decade ago: "I'm not in my rocking chair, so no."

Worst celebration: Steve Edmond, LB, Texas. Sometimes, you get so jacked up, you gotta punch a teammate in the face. Caleb Bluiett's reaction was perfection.

Best celebration: Baylor fan. Major props for the use of the uh, prop.
