AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- Texas quarterback Jerrod Heard has a minor sprain of his throwing shoulder and there is no timetable for his return, the school announced Thursday.

Head Athletic Trainer Anthony Pass said Heard has started rehab for the injury.

Although not considered serious, the injury could be a setback for Heard, who is competing with senior Tyrone Swoopes and freshman Shane Buechele for the starting job in new coordinator Sterlin Gilbert's offense. Swoopes is considered to be running No. 1 in spring drills
