USC didn't waste any time cutting loose head coach Lane Kiffin after the Trojans suffered a 62-41 loss to Arizona State on Saturday.
Is it time for Texas to do the same?
Longhorns legendary running back Earl Campbell thinks so.
"Nobody likes to get fired or leave a job, but things happen," Campbell told KRIV-TV FOX 26. "I'd go on record and say 'yes, I think it's time.'"
USC and Texas have experienced similar struggles since meeting in the 2006 Rose Bowl for the BCS title.
Both have also set new record-breaking embarrassments the past few seasons.
The Trojans matched the most points given up in program history on Saturday. Meanwhile, the Longhorns' defense surrendered a school-record 550 rushing yards to BYU earlier this season.
Texas coach Mack Brown fired his defensive coordinator shortly after the loss to the Cougars, but Campbell doesn't believe that's enough.
"I take my hat off for USC for what they've done," he told FOX 26. "They didn't mess around with it. They just said 'let's do it now.' I think at some point our university's people are going to have make a decision."
Campbell was Texas' first-ever Heisman Trophy winner in 1977. He appreciates what Brown has done during his tenure, but he isn't afraid to say it's time for a coaching change.
"So sometimes a change is good," he said. "I think this is what we're up against at the university. Nobody wants to say that, but somebody has to break the ice and say 'yes it's time.'"
