Mack Brown watched the tape from Saturday night, and the result wasn't good for defensive coordinator Manny Diaz.
Texas has fired Diaz as defensive coordinator, the university confirmed on Sunday afternoon. Diaz has been reassigned to a new role in the athletic department.
"Our performance on defense last night was unacceptable, and we need to change that," Brown said in a release.
Diaz's defense surrendered 550 rushing yards in Texas' 40-21 loss, and Brown was asked if his defensive coordinator would coach the following week.
"I just got out of the game," he told reporters. "I'd like to watch the video."
Greg Robinson is expected to replaced Diaz. Robinson has served as an analyst for the Longhorns since July, mostly analyzing game tape and providing feedback from his home in Los Angeles. Brown said Robinson planned to arrive in Austin on Sunday evening.
"We're very fortunate that Greg has been around, watched all of our practice video and has a good scouting report moving forward," Brown said. "His familiarity with the staff and players should make for a smooth transition."
He previously served as the Longhorns' defensive coordinator in 2004, helping the team go 11-1 and win the Rose Bowl. He was Syracuse's head coach from 2005-08. He joined Rich Rodriguez's staff at Michigan as defensive coordinator in 2009 and was not retained after the 2010 season when Rodriguez was fired.
"This is a tough deal for everyone involved, but I love The University of Texas, and coach Brown has been wonderful to me," Robinson said. "I'll do anything I can to help him, so when he called, I told him I'd be there today."
