Teryn's Take: The Cardinals are heating up
ST. LOUIS -- It has been a magical week at Busch. Cardinal baseball has gotten exciting again.
Bird is the word in St. Louis. (And a really fun segment on FOX Sports Midwest's Cardinals Live pregame show. You should check it out.)
Who couldn't be excited about the young guys stepping up, slamming back-to-back walk-off home runs and knocking our high-socks off to start the week, followed by an impressive showing Wednesday night. All of this against those pesky Pirates, who have a history of giving us some trouble.
Some trouble did ensue Wednesday, however, when six-time All-Star catcher Yadier Molina left the game with a thumb sprain. As we learned Thursday, he'll be out eight to 12 weeks. That's a tough blow, of course, but the good news is St. Louis has a solid backup catcher in Tony Cruz, who could be the starter for many clubs.
So it will be without Molina that the Cardinals try to make a move for first place in the NL Central. They're eight games over .500 for the first time this season and just two games behind first-place Milwaukee.
But that's not the only battle with the Brewers taking place these days. In conjunction with Saturday afternoon's Cardinals-Brewers game on FOX Sports 1, we are engaging in a Twitter battle with the FOX Sports Girls out of Wisconsin.
So we need you to help us prove, once again, that St. Louis has the best fans in baseball. Use the hashtag "#CardsonFS1" all week to take those Milwaukee fans down!
Feel free to use the hashtag in all your Tweets the rest of the week -- hint, hint -- and connect with us during the competition on our Twitter page. Happy tweeting, Redbirds fans! Let's do this!
VIDEO PICK OF THE WEEK
My video pick this week is for all you "Star Wars" lovers out there. I happen to be a bit of a nerd and did enjoy watching an occasional "Star Wars" movie or two now and then, so when Chewbacca threw out the first pitch on Star Wars Night at Busch on Wednesday, I about died!
The Cat has been known known to dress up in costumes ... maybe it was him .... ;)

SHOUT-OUTS OF THE WEEK

My first shout-out this week goes to Yadi. We hope that you get well soon. We'll miss you!
My other shout-out goes to Joe Kelly, who is slated to make his first start after being on the disabled list for much of this season with a strained hamstring. It has already been refreshing to see him in the dugout; I know I'm ready to watch him toe the rubber. GO CARDS!
