Terry: Kidd's injury a 'blessing in disguise'

Rodrigue Beaubois is still a rookie in Jason Terry's eyes. The veteran scoring guard makes the third-year point guard carry his bags and bring him food on the team plane.

According to Jet, Beaubois needs to get 82 games of quality minutes before Terry will stop calling him "rook."

Beaubois has played in only 103 games over his young NBA career because foot injuries have sidelined him twice. With Jason Kidd nursing a strained calf, Beaubois is finally getting a chance to show his teammates he can run the show.

"It's a blessing in disguise that J-Kidd's out because [Roddy's] kind of forced in to having to assume the role of leading the team, starting at the point guard position," Terry said following Sunday's 101-100 overtime victory against the San Antonio Spurs. "He's going to take his lumps but he's going to do more right than wrong. We definitely encourage him more than beat him up."

In his two games starting for Kidd, Beaubois is averaging 18 points, 7 assists, 3.5 blocks and 4.5 rebounds. And the Mavs have won both contests.

"It was great for Roddy Beaubois to be in the situation he was tonight, a playoff-type atmosphere," Terry said. "Those are experiences you're only going to get in a game. He'll learn and grow from it."
