TBT: That time Tom Brady and Bill O'Brien almost threw down on the Patriots sideline
Tom Brady is a competitor. We've seen him get fired up many times, like this:
But there are times when Brady dishes a bit more than others would like. As the Washington Redskins and New England Patriots get set to meet this weekend for the first time since 2011, we look back at one of those moments.
Brady and the Patriots ultimately beat the Redskins 34-27 in Week 14 that season, but one of his more epic shouting matches came after a fourth-quarter interception that could have iced the game.
It looks like Brady told receiver Tiquan Underwood that he has to "go get it" -- referring to the ball being thrown up for grabs.
Well, offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien (now head coach of the Houston Texans) seemed to take umbrage with that. There seemed to be a bunch of four-letter words in there that we can't type here even if we did hire a professional lip reader (you can probably figure out a few for yourself).
Several players needed to step between Brady and his coordinator. Here's what Brady said after the game.
"I threw a pretty bad interception, so he wasn't happy about it," said Brady, who completed 22-of-37 passes for 357 yards with three touchdowns. "And there was probably a long line of coaches and players that were pretty (upset) at me after that, but Billy got to me first. He let me have it; I deserved it."
The Pats went on to play in the Super Bowl that year and lost to the Giants. Coincidence that O'Brien left for Penn State after that?
