Almost three weeks after being placed on waivers, infielder Taylor Green has re-signed with the Milwaukee Brewers.
According to agent Joshua Kusnick, Green's deal includes an invite to major-league spring training and multiple opt-out clauses. The Brewers placed Green on waivers to remove him from the 40-man roster, but general manager Doug Melvin immediately expressed interest in bringing the 26-year-old back.
Green missed the entire 2013 season after injuring his hip in spring training and underwent surgery to remove bone spurs causing an impingement in April. The timing of the injury was poor, as Green would have at least had a chance to play in the big leagues when the Brewers were decimated by either injuries or poor play at first base, third base and second base.
Milwaukee's 25th-round pick in the 2005 draft, Green has hit .207, three home runs and 15 RBI over 78 games with the Brewers. Green's best minor league season came in 2011 when he hit .322 with 22 home runs and 88 RBI for Triple-A Nashville.
Green will provide the Brewers with depth on the infield heading into spring training and could compete for a bench spot.
