SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) The athletes who covered more than 70 miles through the Syracuse area while competing in last week's Ironman event will be getting a second medal for the effort.

Some 1,500 athletes who finished Sunday's Ironman 70.3 Syracuse were given medals that featured an image of the skyline in downtown Rochester - a city 75 miles to the west.

The Post-Standard of Syracuse reports (http://bit.ly/1LC1QgA ) that the Ironman organization and the company that made the medals - North Attleboro, Massachusetts-based Ashworth Awards - announced Wednesday they plan to send every finisher a new medal with the Syracuse skyline.

Ironman officials apologized for the mistake. They say the athletes should receive the new medals in the coming weeks.
