Sy scores 24 as NMSU overpowers Texas State

SAN MARCOS, Texas (AP) -- Bandja Sy provided a big spark for New Mexico State on Thursday night with 24 points and 13 rebounds in an 86-72 victory over Texas State.
Sy helped New Mexico State (14-8, 8-2 Western Athletic) to a 55.6 percent shooting effort from the field by hitting 9 of his 11 shots and converted both of his 3-point attempts.
Daniel Mullings scored 22 points for the Aggies, including a perfect 10 of 10 from the free-throw line.
Sim Bhullar helped New Mexico State post a 42-33 rebounding edge with nine. Bhullar scored 10 points, as did Remi Barry.
Texas State (7-15, 3-7) only could shoot 36.4 percent from the field.
Matt Staff led Texas State with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Corey Stern scored 16 points and Joel Wright scored 14.
