Swing nets 18, UAB tops South Alabama 92-78

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) -- Jordan Swing led five Alabama-Birmingham players in double figures with 18 points as the Blazers topped South Alabama 92-78 Saturday night.

The nonconference win snapped a two-game losing streak for UAB (5-5), which got 17 points from Fahro Alihodzic, 14 from Preston Purifoy, 13 from Robert Williams and 12 from Isiah Jones. Jones also had eight assists, and Williams grabbed eight rebounds.

Augustine Rubit paced the Jaguars (4-5) with 24 points and 11 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season.

South Alabama has now lost three straight.

UAB opened on an 11-2 run capped by Swing's jumper with 15:02 left in the first half. The Blazers led by as many as 21 in the first half, shooting 51.3 percent (20 of 39) from the field and hitting 5 of 11 3-pointers for a 46-27 halftime advantage.

UAB outscored South Alabama 44-28 in the paint and 12-2 on fast breaks.
