SWIM: Pelicans vs. Raptors

Looking at a box score is something anyone can do. Who lead my team in scoring? How'd we shoot from the field? And while that knowledge is useful, does it really earn you bonus points around the water cooler?

That's why I'm here. I'm bringing you the S.W.I.M: Statistics Worth Increased Media. Let Joe from accounting regurgitate what he heard on the way in this morning; you're better than that. Use these nuggets to gain a unique perspective about last night's Pelicans/Raptors game.

Tyreke Evans has six games with 20-plus points this month and has shot at least 50% from the field in five straight. Evans had just six20-point efforts prior to March, with his longest streak of 50% games being three.

Evans is far from an elite passer, and while he handed out only 65% of his season average in helpers, he was the Pelicans leader in dimes.

For only the second time this season, Alexis Ajinca scored ten-plus points at home (he's done so five times on the road).

Ajinca is averaging 8.4 rebounds in those seven double figure point games.

Al-Farouq Aminu recorded two double doubles at home in a seven day span at the beginning of December: tonight was his first double double in New Orleans since.

On the heels of a three game stretch where he made at least two three pointers in every game and 13.3 points, Anthony Morrow has totaled just 11 points and has yet to make a three pointer over his last three.

The Raptors (a bottom ten team in FG%) field goal percentage for this game was 2.6 percentage points lower than their season average while the Pelicans (the 11th best team in FG%) converted at a rate that was 7.9 percentage points above their season mark. How does New Orleans lose a game with those trends? Take 19 fewer shots than the road team.

Kyle Lowry surely scored 20-plus points with regularity in high school, but this was the first time since those glorious days in which he rattled off four consecutive 20-point performances.

For the 26th consecutive game, Lowry's AR total (assists plus rebounds) reached double figures.

DeMar DeRozan tallied 25 points for the second time in as many nights, the first such occurrence since March 4-5 against the Nets … the New Jersey Nets.

For the first time in 366 days, Tyler Hansbrough pulled down double digit rebounds on the road.

Amir Johnson has 20 rebounds in his last two games in addition to shooting over 50% in both of those games. It had been just over three months since he reached those statistical plateaus.

For the first time in 2014, the Raptors won a game in which Terrence Ross failed to make a three pointer (minimum one attempt).

Dirk Nowitzki's 27 points were his second most in a game in which he failed to make a three pointer over the last two years.

Shawn Marion pulled down 11 rebounds and dished out five assists in this game. The last time he finished with double digit rebounds and a handful of assists? December 15, 2012 … also against the Timberwolves.

Has there ever been a player who played 15-20 minutes a night who shot 69.7% from the field over a month span that got less attention than Brandon Wright?

For the ninth straight home game, Jose Calderon made multiple three pointers.

Speaking of Calderon, he now has committed just eight turnovers in home losses this season.

For the fourth time in five losses, Vince Carter made at least three triples. He failed to do so once in the Mavericks previous 18 losses.

Minnesota was emerged victories in four straight Ricky Rubio double doubles.

Rubio, a 36.2% career shooter, is shooting 60% from the field while averaging 9.5 rebounds and 14 assists in his last two games against Dallas.

Kevin Love has 24 total rebounds in 116 minutes over his last three games: he is averaging 12.9 rebounds in 36.5 minutes this season (or roughly 24 rebounds every 68 minutes).

For the first time in more than three months, Kevin Martin recorded his fourth consecutive game with a steal.

Gorgui Dieng totaled 70 points and 96 rebounds in his first 42 games this season. The former Louisville star has totaled 22 points and 22 rebounds in his last two.

Over the last three months, there have been an average of 224.1 total points scored in games in which J.J. Barea scores at least 15 points.
