SWIM: Mavericks vs. Nuggets
Looking at a box score is something anyone can do. Who lead my team in scoring? How'd we shoot from the field? And while that knowledge is useful, does it really earn you bonus points around the water cooler?
That's why I'm here. I'm bringing you the S.W.I.M: Statistics Worth Increased Media. Let Joe from accounting regurgitate what he heard on the way in this morning; you're better than that. Use these nuggets to gain a unique perspective about last night's Mavericks/Nuggets game.
The Mavericks have scored at least 106 points in four of their last six losses. Dirk Nowitzki is averaging 27.3 points and shooting 58.3% from the field in those four contests.
Dallas lost a road game in which Nowitzki made at least ten field goals for the first time since January 29th, 2013.
The Mavericks won 15 of the first 22 games that Shawn Marion made a three pointer, but have now dropped four straight.
Jose Calderon scored fewer than ten points for the fourth time in eight games. Dallas is averaging 7 more points in those games than in the four in which he scored in double figures.
For the first time since November 12th and only the second time this season, Monta Ellis did not miss a three pointer (minimum one attempt).
Devin Harris handed out at least seven assists in 20 or fewer minutes for the third time in his last five road games (he's made just three field goals in such games).
Brandon Wright is averaging 11.2 points and shooting 74.6% on Wednesday's in 2014.
Dallas has had the leading scorer in every game with Denver this season, but they have yet to beat the Nuggets.
The Nuggets have scored at least 34 points in four of their last six quarters. They averaged 19 points in the other two quarters.
Kenneth Faried made all eight of his free throws in his 25th career game. The Manimal made all six of his freebies in this one, his most makes without a miss since.
The Nuggets won this game, so it should be no surprise that Randy Foye made multiple treys. December 15th was the last time Denver won a game in which their shooting guard didn't bury at least two three pointers.
J.J. Hickson blocked five shots and handed out three assists in a game in which he scored 16 points and shot 80%. He had totaled just three assists in the seven other games that he blocked multiple shots.
The Nuggets allow opponents to make an NBA-high 20.6 free throws a night, yet they made 21 more than the Mavericks attempted.
Denver has only won two of their last 12 games, and in both wins they scored fewer points than they did in the previous loss.
Darrell Arthur made all four of his free throws and now has six in two wins against the Mavericks this season. He has six in the Nuggets other 24 wins this season.
