Suns team up with group in anti-bullying fight
It’s the official countdown to the Anti-Bullying Awareness Day hosted by I Will Not Bully Inc. – a non-profit organization in partnership with The Phoenix Suns at US Airways Center in downtown Phoenix.
On Sunday, Feb. 24, at 6 p.m., the Suns will face their longstanding rival, the San Antonio Spurs. That night, I Will Not Bully Inc. is inviting the community to participate in the fight against bullying by purchasing tickets from the organization’s website, making a donation to sponsor tickets online, or by purchasing an “I Will Not Bully” T-shirt, where the proceeds will benefit inner-city children who want to attend the game.
Just before the game, the community is also invited to join in the Anti-Bullying pep rally that will take place in front of US Airways Center. Children of the non-profit organization and parents and supporters will gather in taking a stand against bullying. The pep rally will begin with the children singing the "I Will Not Bully" anthem, and volunteers will be giving out pledge cards, stickers and various handouts to the public.
The non-profit organization believes it’s important for children to participate in activities that will expand their hope and compel them to look beyond current challenges they may be facing.
"Children in underserved communities often have limited access to educationally-based, recreational opportunities of this magnitude," said Tamicia Currie, Executive Director. In bringing awareness to the rising epidemic of bullying, the organization believes it’s important to make the public aware that many children who engage in bullying, do so, because they don’t have proper outlets to support them. "Children are very impressionable, and our job as caretakers of the community is to give them the very best impressions that will encourage them to get excited about the endless possibilities for a bright future," Currie concludes.
