Stars begin second half of season with win over Jets
WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) -- Tyler Seguin scored twice, John Klingberg had a goal and an assist and the Dallas Stars held on for a 5-3 victory over the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday night.
Vernon Fiddler and Antoine Roussel also scored for Dallas, and Antti Niemi stopped 21 shots.
Andrew Ladd, Adam Lowry and Dustin Byfuglien scored for Winnipeg, and Connor Hellebuyck made 22 saves.
Seguin scored for the first time in five games and Klingberg had gone eight games without a goal.
Seguin scored 2:49 into the third period to put Dallas ahead 4-2. Byfuglien got his goal with 9:46 left, but Roussel scored an empty-netter with Hellebuyck pulled and 42 seconds left.
Ladd put the Jets on the board by tipping in Drew Stafford's shot during a power play with 5:44 left in the first.
Seguin tied it 51 seconds into the second period just after a Stars power play expired. He ripped a shot from inside the faceoff circle, and Hellebuyck couldn't move over fast enough to stop it.
Lowry scored about 3 minutes later when he stuffed a puck passed a sprawled Niemi.
Dallas then scored three straight goals.
Klingberg tied it 2-2 on an unusual breakaway. After Cody Eakin had his stick knocked out of his hands near center ice, he continued up the ice without it alongside Demers and Klingberg. Demers passed to Klingberg, and he beat the outnumbered Hellebuyck at 14:41.
The Stars took their first lead of the game 2 minutes later after Ales Hemsky dropped a pass to a trailing Fiddler to shoot in.
Forty seconds after Jets forward Andrew Copp went to the box for tripping, Seguin had the puck come back to him and he fired it through traffic past Hellebuyck. It was his 27th goal of the season.
Niemi stretched out for a big pad save on Mark Scheifele late in the game to preserve the lead.
Winnipeg pulled Hellebuyck for the extra attacker with just under 2 minutes left and defenseman Tyler Myers had a shot ring off the crossbar.
NOTES: The game was Winnipeg's fifth of a six-game homestead (1-4-0), which concludes Friday against Carolina. ... The Stars travel to Colorado for a game Thursday night.
