Star ski jumper Sarah Hendrickson out for season

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) Champion ski jumper Sarah Hendrickson is out for the season following knee surgery.

The U.S. Skiing and Snowboarding Association said Thursday she had surgery in her hometown of Park City, Utah, this week. She is to have a follow-up operation in the coming months.

Hendrickson says in a statement she is fortunate this year does not feature an Olympics or world championships. She plans to be back in 2017 and ready for the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea

Hendrickson hurt her right knee during training in August 2013 and reinjured the knee jump training in June. She won the 2012 season FIS World Cup and was world champion in 2013.
